SENATE MEETING MINUTES
32nd LEGISLATION
OCTOBER 28, 2008
Meeting called to order 8:48 pm
I. Called to Order
Roll Call
II. Approval of the Agenda
A. President Gabriel asks if there are any amendments to the agenda. AVP Yazicilar changes Interesting Course to Diversity Week. AVP Hassan would like to change the date. President Gabriel makes a motion to approve the agenda. AVP Kennedy so moved.
III. President Gabriel Report:
A. Raheem DeVaughn wrapup.
B. Dr. Cornel West Speaker Series wrapup.
C. BiOrganizational meeting wrapup. The meeting was well attended and very informative. We are looking to have another bisemester meeting the date will be announced.
D. NFTA Open Forum is November 13th during Bengal Pause; a representative from NFTA will be there to answer questions.
E. NFTA wrapup - I've been working with NFTA to have a bus wrap which will have the school logo and the United Students logo.
F. Appointments - EVP Watson and Senator Pro Tem Hemingway would like to nominate Lindsey Porter for a Senatorial position. President Gabriel makes a motion to nominate Lindsey Porter to the Senatorial position. Floor is open for questions. Senator Darling 2nd. Vote is taken and passes unanimously to nominate Lindsey Porter as Senator. President Gabriel swears Lindsey in. Also, we have a Student at Large appointment Lissette Vergare. Floor is open for questions. Vote is taken to appoint Lissette Vergare for Student at Large and passes unanimously.

IV. EVP Watson Report:
A. SUNY Budget - SUNY budget will be proposing a 7% reduction to the fiscal plan. USG could possibly lose its funding. Senator Renea Johnson and I will be doing a power point.
B. Senator Applications - I plan on having rolling admission, if you know anyone that is interested tell them to fill out a application.

V. Senator Pro Tem Hemingway Report:
A. Liaison Reports are due today. If you have not come to me and did not hand in a report you will get a 1/2 absence.
B. October Birthday recognition.
C. Senator of the month is Felipe Perez.

VI. Standing Committee Reports
A. AVP Yazicilar Academic Report:
Academic Update - be aware of the spam messages, don't click on them. There are Defensive Driving classes being offered at $22.00 a person. These classes will be taking place on Saturday December 6th from 9 am - 3pm in Ketchum Hall room 219. To enroll call Brad Waldron at (716) 6772734 space is limited. There is a Civil War tour and you can 6 credits.
Relaxation Week is December 1st to the 5th. I will read a draft of the activities.
Town Hall Discussion wrapup.
Cultural Diversity Week there will be various events this week.
Scholarship for this week is the McNair and the Internship is Thrive Africa.

C. AVP Kennedy Community Affairs Report:
Poverty Week is November 17th - 21st. Some of the events will be a food drive competition between all the Resident Halls including the hotels. A Poverty Banquet, Sleep out for the homeless with NYPIRG, having speakers come in and tell what they have seen working in shelters. Also, a Rock for Socks party with WBNY, these events are not 100% final. My committee meetings are open please come.

E. Rules & Regulations Chair Hamilton Report:
AEL meeting - I have a meeting with AEL tomorrow at 6 pm to remove recognition regarding their incident at camp. There was a grievance filed stating that they violated the alcohol policy at Whispering Pines camp. Everyone is welcome to come to the meeting.

VII. Treasurer Dobney Report:
A. Request of Budget wrapup.
B. Budget Committee update. There was a allocation for Whispering Pines which we tabled to the Whispering Pines Committee. Jewish Student Organization handed in a line item request from the last three weeks; this is tabled because they have not gotten back to us. The Budget Committee minutes are available in the office if you would like to see them.
C. I would like to recognize Vice Treasurer Johnson. Vice Treasurer Johnson states that on Thursday at 12:15 in the Game Room there is a nonfunded organization meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to give these organizations information on how to become funded.
D. Manners Matter is Friday November 7th at 4 pm, there are six open spots. Tickets will be given to the first six people. My office hours tomorrow are 8:00 am -10:00 am and 11:00 am - 12:00 pm please see me to sign up.

X. Constituents Questions/Announcements
A. Senator Rosie states that the Whispering Pines Committee has to amend the Whispering Pines contract. This change is stating that along with not getting your deposit back if the lodge is damaged there maybe additional fees added to that.
B. Senator Lane states that there is a signup sheet to join the Hotel Committee. Democracy and Tha Ink Club are having a Poetry Slam.
C. Senator Kennedy states CSO is having their annual Dollar Jam and USG is invited.
D. NYPIRG gives an update.
