United Students Government response following COVID-19 effects
March 18, 2020
On behalf of the Executive Board of the United Students Government (USG), we know that you deserve answers and explanations of the statements you have received. We are continuing to work with the campus administration to keep students informed and answer your questions as best we can. USG knows this has brought a great deal of stress, anxiety and confusion to all our lives and we are hoping to reduce this as much as possible. Though, as you know, things are continuously changing as all SUNY institutions are working to provide services necessary for growth and do what is best for our students, faculty and staff during this time.
Below we have listed answers to many of the questions we continue to receive with the current information we have as of today March 19, 2020, though please note this information is subject to change. We strongly encourage all students to check Bengal Connect for further USG updates.
❖ As of Wednesday, March 18, 2020 per Buffalo State Colleges recommendations on establishing social distancing guidelines all USG offices will be operating remotely until Wednesday, April 1, 2020; at which time we will reevaluate the situation. Though our office may be closed, we are only an email away. Please contact us directly.
❖ The Buffalo State College Administration and USG highly recommend students stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, avoid large groups of people, and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other people as a measure to reduce the possible spread of the virus. It is also imperative that we all continue to practice simple good-health habits, such as washing our hands often and thoroughly, coughing or sneezing into the crooks of our arms, avoiding touching our faces, and staying home when we are sick.
❖ All meetings of organizations are to be held electronically with no meetings or events to be held on campus. USG is working on providing an online communication platform for our organizations so you can stay connected and still hold weekly meetings and virtual events. We are hoping to announce this partnership soon.
❖ Any Purchase Requisitions submitted for all events after March 14 have been voided. Equipment or supplies may still be ordered for your club to hold virtual events or meetings during this time. Please email the USG Office (firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com; and firstname.lastname@example.org) to make a request however the time in which the requests are completed may be slower than usual.
❖ All travel for USG Recognized & Funded Organizations has been suspended for the rest of the semester at this time.
❖ If you find that you will face difficulty succeeding in your courses with the switch to a distance learning model, please remember to stay in contact with your professors to discuss the impacts this might have on your academic achievement and save all course-related communication with professors (Ex. email chains & announcements).
❖ The health of our students is our primary concern. The college administration has asked us to remind students If you suspect that you’re experiencing coronavirus symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, or respiratory distress), isolate yourself immediately and call the Weigel Wellness Center at (716) 878-6711. Please call before going to the clinic. During evenings and weekends, please call the after-hours nurse line at (866) 710-1002.
❖ In regard to General Campus Information, please continue to monitor your Buffalo State e-mail and the Buffalo State College COVID-19 information page for updates.
❖ If there are any issues/questions/concerns that you still need addressed please reach out to email@example.com.
Our priority is the safety of our students and ensuring opportunities to continue to succeed through their education. We hope that you remain safe, healthy and committed in your academic and individual endeavors. Please add USG on social media @buffstateusg to keep up to date on what we, and other on campus departments, are planning to do to help keep our students sharp and entertained during this difficult time. We need to remember we are not alone; ask for help and keep in touch not only with your loved ones, but your mentors, friends and organizations!
