Events and Activities
Throughout the year USG sponsors all sorts of activities to enhance student life at Buffalo State. From providing coffee and tea to commuters on an early semester morning to staging a big springfest concert there's something for everyone. Other things to look for: free movies, music parties, educational workshops, speakers, painting classes, craft nights, bingo (with great prizes!), karaoke, a chicken barbecue, carnival rides, and more. Watch the Bengal Connect website to see when these things are happeing!
The USG Game Room
The Game Room is located in the basement level of the Campbell Student Union and is open during the fall and spring semesters. The facilities and staff are funded by USG and include lounge areas with large screen TVs, ping pong, billiards, foosball, Guitar Hero, and a large selection of board games. Special events are occasionally held in the Game Room. Students are hired to staff the room; contact the USG Business office for information on working in the Game Room. See the Game Room page on BengalConnect.com for more information and current hours.
The Bengal Connect website is provided by USG to connect students with organizations and extra curricular activities that will enrich their lives at Buffalo State. By adding the CORQ mobile app to your phone you will have quick access to activites and organization info pulled from the Bengal Connect site. Visit: www.bengalconnect.com
Copy and Fax Services
The USG Copy Center, Campbell Student Union 403, offers black and white copies and a fax service as well as selling US first-class postage stamps. The USG Press Services office, Union 416, can make color copies. For more info on Press Services see the Press Services page on BengalConnect.com. Both offices are open during regular weekday office hours when classes are in session.
USG Media Sign
The Media Sign (on the Campbell Student Union exterior wall facing the Butler Library) was purchased by USG and is managed through the USG Business Office. Its purpose is to advertise on-campus events to students. All decisions on messages that appear on the sign are at the discretion of the USG Program Coordinator and Business Manager.
For USG Organizations the opportunity to have your event listed on the Media Sign is part of the event registration process through Bengal Connect. For other requests, use the email process below.
Email your request to firstname.lastname@example.org one week prior to the appearance of the message on the sign. Make sure to include the following information in your e-mail:
• Name of sponsoring organization
• Event name and a brief description
• Admission cost and ticket availability if applicable
• Time frame when you want your message to run (NO GUARANTEES)
Hand written requests are not accepted.
Campus features such as the Escort Van Shelters in the parking lots and Television Monitors in the Bulger Communication Center lobby as well as much of the equipment in the Sports Complex Fitness Center have been provided by USG for the convenience of students. A USG initiative resulted in a Morton Lane Bank Machine being installed in the Butler Library Study Quad where there it is accesible longer hours of the week than other bank machines on campus.
Any student with a suggestion for a campus service that USG might fund or advocate for is welcome to submit their idea to the USG officers for consideration.
The mandatory student activity fee also supports these services:
Buffalo State Child Care Center
Buckham Hall C-Wing
A daycare center for children of Buffalo State students was originally established by USG in the 1970s. The current Child Care Center is not a USG operated service but it is supported by USG through an annual grant. For more information on the Center's services and registration policies see their website: http://childcarecenter.buffalostate.edu
New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG)
Student referendums have consistently approved the support of a Buffalo State chapter of NYPIRG with activity fee funds. NYPIRG is not a USG organization and USG has no control over NYPIRG's activities or budget expenditures. Active since 1973 the NYPIRG is New York State's largest student-directed consumer, environmental, and government reform organization. NYPIRG is nonpartisan, not-for-profit, and has chapters at many college campuses across the state. Students work with a staff of professional organizers, researchers, and advocates to fight for lower tuition, a cleaner environment, consumer protection, student rights, and social justice. NYPIRG OFFICE: Student Union 419 - Phone 882-1549. See the NYPIRG Web Site for more on the parent organization.
